Durban Point Waterfront is one of the most exciting and significant development projects currently underway. The project is one of the key catalysts for the redevelopment and regeneration of the entire inner-city providing housing, employment, commercial, retail and recreational facilities for eThekwini residents.
Last week the eThekwini Municipality announced that R35 billion had been budgeted to upgrade infrastructures including the extension of the promenade and all surroundings roads, public transport networks, water and electricity channels. The extended promenade will stretch from Vetch’s Beach to the harbour entrance. Also, in the plans are a residential tower, retail mall and hotel, as well as skyscrapers and high-rise developments. Urban renewal has certainly been a key factor in developing this area, particularly the planned clean-up in the Mahatma Gandhi Road area. These are certainly very exciting times for Durban.
