National Women's Day

Category Public Holiday

This month we celebrate National Women’s Day,  and honor the brave & strong women who fought tirelessly against the tyranny of the Apartheid government in South Africa.   In 1956 Lilllian Ngogi, Helen Joseph, Albertina Sisulu and Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, along with more than 50 000 women of different races, staged a peaceful march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria.  They rallied against the laws that prevented the free movement of black South Africans, championing the cause of justice while fighting for their freedom and rights.  It was an inspiring display of female solidarity, strength, and unity as they stood in silence for 30 minutes.

In South Africa recent property surveys indicate that women are investing in property as a potential way to secure their financial futures.   A recent FNB report showed that single women now make up an estimated 10.3% of South African buyers, while single male buyers top out at 7%.   As women occupy more managerial roles in the workplace,  commanding higher income earnings, credit and home loan financing is becoming far more easily accessible to them.  This is a very positive development for the South African property market.

Here's to strong women - may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.
